Professor of Game Design (m/w)


We offer you a temporary position for 5 years.
BTK University of Art & Design is seeking to appoint a part-time Professor of Game Design as of the winter semester 2017/18 (with the option for full-time)at its location in Hamburg as part the expansion of the Bachelor’s programs.
The successful applicant will be an exceptional artistic and design figure who possesses relevant national and/or international experience and a reputation in conceptualization and realization of computer games on different platforms.


Job description:

You have a good understanding of interactive entertainment media in all their artistic and creative potential, their societal and cultural relevance, and adventurousness in their design. You will be teaching the fundamentals of interactive media, nonlinear narrative, game mechanics, level and world design, and the creative and technical development practices in the designing of computer games in the Game Design program. The successful applicant should have a good understanding of and be able to reflect critically on the current developments in the games industry and culture as well as digitalization of the media, and bring interdisciplinary professional experience.
The advertised professorship includes the tasks of the expanding the program in Hamburg in cooperation with the Game Design program Berlin, as well as the programs at the location. You will also actively participate in drawing up the curricula for new programs and further developing existing programs. A great emphasis is placed at BTK on the willingness to initiate cooperation with partners in culture, academe, business, and research. For this reason, an established network of partners in Hamburg is welcome.


General requirements:

  • Completed university education in a relevant academic subject
  • Proof of exceptional aptitude for academic work (PhD)
  • Five years minimum of relevant professional experience, three years of which outside the academe.
  • Teaching experience at a(n international) university
  • Research in the specialist area of the position to be filled
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English
