Talk & Play #12
15 April 2015 @ 19:00 — 23:00
FreeTalk & Play is a free event, taking place every two months, that provides the opportunity to game enthusiasts, players and makers to meet and exchange knowledge in a friendly, relaxed and safe environment. Everybody’s welcome, regardless of their background and knowledge level: if you like games, we’ll make sure you have a good time! Important: this is NOT an event only aimed at developers – keep in mind that I’m not one myself :P
RSVP on Meetup.com // RSVP on Facebook.
HOW IT WORKS
The event is structured in two parts:
– TALK: A couple of short game-related presentations, followed by a Q&A session, with a special live music break courtesy of Alfred Ladylike & her ukulele
– PLAY: All participants are welcome to bring games they’ve made or are still working on so that the audience can play them – a perfect opportunity to discover and play new games, collect feedback and, who knows?, maybe find collaborators for future projects
THE SPEAKERS
– Lenara Verle researches media art, collaboration and alternative currencies and is a lecturer for the Digital Communication and the Game Design programs at Unisinos University in Brazil. She’s going to present The Currency Lab, a board game created as a way to interactively learn the basic concepts of currency design: just like in real life, the path to a successful new currency (Euros, Bitcoins, Frequent Flyer Miles…) entails many challenges that must be overcome by choosing and creating strategies.
– Dying to land a full time job in the industry? Stephie Theodora maps out her journey from fan girl to intern to game designer in Berlin’s hottest mobile game companies in her talk “Breaking into the Gaming Industry” – a crash course in pursuing your dream without any contacts or design school certificates.
– Scott Bolden is an artist, designer and engineer from Brooklyn, New York who is currently building an indoor treehouse as a hub for sustainable development in the Wedding district of Berlin called Das Baumhaus. He is going to introduce us to a game he is developing where the players engage in an active and fun collaboration of personal, social and aesthetic sustainability; a game where all players can win as much as they like.
THE GAMES
Have you made a game? Would you like to show it so our audience can play it during the second part of the event? Just bring it, and let us know in advance so we can add it to this list and give it a shout-out at the beginning of the evening! We can provide tables, chairs, power strips and plenty of space – that means that the devices (laptop, controllers, tablets…) are up to you.
